Below are some profiles of UNC alumni and previous CSBC members that are currently working in the sport industry.
Associate Manager, Sports Consulting
Wasserman Media Group
New York City
I am working in the Sports Consulting division at Wasserman Media Group in New York. My role is very dynamic, challenging, and exciting because I am exposed to a variety of Wasserman’s projects, client teams, and divisions on a daily basis. In my first two months, I have already managed an MLS sponsorship activation, a Verizon & NFL media day, and conducted background research on potential clients. I am a day-to-day member of the client teams for the Scotts & MLB sponsorship and our Pepsi team.
My experience with the Carolina Sport Business Club prepared me extremely well for my first full-time position in the sport business industry. The leadership experiences, connections, career advice, and personal relationships you build through the club are essential to establishing yourself as a strong candidate in this industry. My advice to current students: be a leader, be a thinker, be actively involved, and stay connected to your peers.
Sports Consulting and Activation Management Trainee
I am working for Team Epic, a sports marketing agency that specializes in lifestyle marketing, sponsorship strategy and activation, hosting and event management. I am working on the Toyota account and have had the opportunity to travel to NASCAR race weekends and the company’s headquarters in Connecticut for promotions and trainings. I have also had the opportunity to research new business prospects and participate in brainstorms and planning meetings for various accounts.
My advice to CSBC members would be to network! Take advantage of opportunities you have through UNC and the Club to make positive and meaningful relationships with people in the industry and your peers!
Associate Manager, Golf Consulting
Wasserman Media Group
I work in the Golf Division at Wasserman Media Group in Raleigh, NC. Our Golf group is split up into two segments – consulting and athlete management. I work on our consulting side and provide support for several of our key clients and business development projects. Prior to my position with Wasserman, I interned with the PGA TOUR and the Met PGA, and also worked in the Athletic Communications Office in the UNC Athletic Department during the school year.
My experience at Carolina, specifically with the Sports Business Club, prepared me very well for my post-grad life. The opportunity to work with other bright, young professionals allowed me to build excellent relationships, develop a personal network, and most importantly, learn from others as I progressed through my four years. Working with other members of the exec board of the CSBC absolutely prepared me for working in a team setting at Wasserman, something that is absolutely essential for me.
